• President to Tour Leading Chinese Manufacturing Plants and Model Village Showcasing Poverty Alleviation Tomorrow
• High-Level Meeting with Sichuan Province Communist Party Secretary Scheduled for Tomorrow
On the third day of his state visit to China, President Anura Kumara Disanayake participated in several significant discussions aimed at bringing tangible benefits to Sri Lanka.
Accordingly during a special investment forum chaired by the President this morning (16), representatives and executives from several leading Chinese companies attended to explore potential opportunities in Sri Lanka.
Subsequently, the President engaged in multiple rounds of discussions with representatives of globally renowned companies, including the China Petrochemical Corporation (SINOPEC Group), China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC), China Merchants Group (CMG), Huawei, and BYD Auto, a leading company in the automobile manufacturing sector.
One of the major outcomes of these discussions was the signing of an agreement with Sinopec, which will bring a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of $3.7 billion to Sri Lanka. The investment will be utilized to establish an oil refinery in Hambantota, with plans to export a significant portion of its output.
In the afternoon, the President paid tribute at the Monument to the People’s Heroes, honouring China’s legacy of national resilience.
Following this, President Disanayake met Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.
The day concluded with bilateral discussions between President Disanayake and Chinese Premier Li Qiang. Reflecting on the long-standing friendship between the two nations, the talks focused on China’s continued support for Sri Lanka’s vision of achieving “A Thriving Nation, A Beautiful Life.” Premier Li reaffirmed China’s commitment to assisting Sri Lanka in its development initiatives.
On the final day of his state visit tomorrow (17), President Disanayake is set to visit several prominent manufacturing plants in China. He will also tour a model Chinese village renowned for its successful poverty alleviation programs. Additionally, the President will engage in a high-level discussion with the Communist Party Secretary of Sichuan Province.
The delegation accompanying the President includes Minister of Foreign Affairs, Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath, Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Bimal Rathnayake, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka H.E. Qi Zhenhong and Sri Lankan Ambassador to People’s Republic of China, Majintha Jayesinghe.
